Basic Functions Of The Spine

by Dr Calhoun | August 25th, 2011

Your spinal column  is your lifeline.  It is the backbone to whole body health.

The spine has three main functions. The first is that it provides SUPPORT to your body. The second is that it PROTECTS your spinal cord. Third is it allows MOVEMENT.

Without our spine we could not stand upright. We would not be able to walk, run or do the many activities that we take for granted.  We would not be able to move safely in our environment.

Our spinal column has many parts. It has 24 movable joints. Our spinal cord running through our spinal canal is made up of millions of nerves carrying information to and from our brain and body allowing us to interact with our environment.  When a joint in our spinal column misaligns it may put pressure on a spinal nerve that exits from the spinal cord to our body. As a result we may have pain, decreased for loss of function, or a number of other symtoms.

Dr. Calhoun, Liberty Hill Chiropractor has a special ability as a chiropractor is to recognize and correct spinal misalignments resulting in less pain, more function and a return to normal health. Chiropractic works!
