Migraine Headaches and My Story

Migraine Headaches and Chiropractic Treatment:
Migraines are very painful and typically recurring headaches that may be accompanied by visual disturbances, light sensitivity, nausea, seeing an aura and difficulty in concentration. If very intense they can be debilitating and acutely affect quality of life.
Typically seeing an aura or zig zag lines may occur just prior to onset of the migraine. With or without an aura it is common to have thirst, craving for sweets, sleepiness or depression before or during the episode. The episode may last 30 min to 72 hours and may recur daily if not treated.
The origin of onset may be traced to spinal trauma, poor postures and sleeping habits, as well as what is put into the body.
Chiropractic care through spinal adjustments can prevent, or reduce the intensity, frequency and duration of the migraine.
Hello my name is Dr. Lynn Emmett Calhoun, a Liberty Hill, Texas Chiropractor and I suffer from migraines too. Mine started when I was about 5 years old when I fell from a high distance onto my head and neck. The headaches were frequent and quite severe. My parents did not know about chiropractic care. They had many medical tests and x-rays done on me to determine the cause. Nothing was determined by the conventional medical model other than that I suffered from migraines. I was put on medicines of many kinds but nothing helped. With time I adjusted my life around the headaches. I had to miss a lot of school and it affected my grades and the overall quality of growing up. I tried to stay active but would get these “Monster” headaches 2-3 times per week. I would also experience severe nausea and vomiting. Foods, smells and temperature changes could trigger them. I would go to my bedroom, turn off all lights as well as my mind and try to sleep through the episode. Although I still was a good student and athlete through hard work I couldn’t escape the control that the headaches had on my life. Until my older sister Pauline moved back closer to home and brought me to a chiropractor for the first time. I was in high school. Dr. Schaub, the Chiropractor determined that I had subluxations or spinal misalignments putting pressure on spinal nerves to my head. With his hands he adjusted my neck and realigned it back into place. I got immediate relief! All of the years of doctors and medicine couldn’t cure what one adjustment could. The “monster” of all headaches had finally been caged. Chiropractic Care worked for me. Thank you Pauline for caring enough to help me. Thank you Dr. Schaub for going against the medical mainstream and becoming a Chiropractor. Thank you Chiropractic profession for helping so many people the natural and holistic way. That’s why I became a Chiropractor.
